Impact of COVID – 19 on Women and Poor People

In view of the outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic emerged as a global humanitarian crisis creating setback to the
development gains, efforts to recover better and build back better are the major concerns of both the state and non-state actors. This study
is focused on the marginalised communities compounded with economic impacts especially the women and poor people who are generally
earning less, saving less, and holding insecure jobs or living close to poverty. The main objective is to assess the impact of pandemic on
vulnerable groups and women and beyond as well as to understand their hardship and pain through desk study and news analysis and analyse
the impact of lockdown on their employment, income, livelihood and access to basic food, shelter, health and education.
Based on both primary and secondary data, the compact learnings, mainly, the impact of COVID- 19 on women and poor people were
generated to validate through primary data collected in three districts: Bhulke of Udayapur, Banaganga of Kapilvastu and Tokha
Municipality of Kathmandu. Conducted among the sample size of 300 purposive sample the field study team prepared the list of potential
respondents based on the records of those who have stayed in quarantines, holding centres and isolation centres following various
government and non-government data sources. Overall data collection effort aims to contribute for the detailed analysis of right holder’s
situation and impact status, particularly, on education, economic empowerment, health and access to local governance and decision making.
